Congratulations on your assignment to the 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment and the "Mustangs" based at Fort Hood, Texas. On behalf of the Battalion Commander, LTC Peter A. Sicoli and Command Sergeant Major, Frank C. Wood, we would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family to our Battalion which has a distinguished history with a long line of soldiers that have worked to create that legacy. The 1-8 CAV Soldiers are a family with shared successes, experiences, and hardships, and we are excited to have you join the Mustang team. The unity motto is "Honor and Courage" and we look forward to living up to those words with you.
The Battalion's primary mission is simple: train Soldiers to standards through tough, and realistic training that will mirror what they will see in combat. In addition, our training is first class with support being provided to the Regular Army, National Guard and Reserve units.
Please notify this unit upon receipt of your orders so that a sponsor can be assigned to you to further expedite your family. I would like to assure you that we will do everything possible to make this a smooth transition for you and your family. We look forward to meeting you and your family. You have volunteered to serve your country, and now you get to so in one of the Army's finest Cavalry Units.
